About Us

Clarence & Cripps opened in the lakeside village of Hudson in Quebec in 2006.


Maxine, originally from Newcastle upon Tyne in England, moved to Canada with her family in 2001 and soon had a dream to bring a little taste of her homeland to a quiet and beautiful corner of Canada.
After establishing her reputation in Hudson she moved to larger premises in 2009 and increased her stock by approximately 50% to meet growing demand from her customers.


Maxine is an active member of her local community supporting local fundraising events, working with other local businesses, and sponsoring local organizations and young people. She prides herself on her quality of service and her commitment to bringing high quality British goods to your doorstep.

Maxine’s customers are made up of ex pats looking for familiar flavors from their days in the UK; locals who want to try out some delicious food; passing visitors, and people who travel from afar to have a chat with Maxine and her team and stock up on their favorites.


One thing is for sure - you’ll get a warm welcome when you visit.

Clarence & Cripps stocks all sorts of foodstuffs and gifts which are continually updated.


Find Marks & Spencers goods, Keep Calm and Carry on gifts, McVities, Batchelors, Yorkshire Tea, Robertson’s, Cadburys, Tate & lyle, kippers, smoked haddock, and Melton Mowbray pies....the list of familiar names goes on and on. And the stock is continually updated to keep in touch with new products by visiting us in person or online or follow us on Facebook or Twitter.

We even have our own lines; try our own recipe Steak & Kidney or Steak & Ale pies, three types of British sausages (Breakfast, Lincolnshire and Cumberland), Commonwealth blend freshly roasted coffee beans, and Earl grey and Darjeeling tea.
